  1. When asked about the challenges faced during the transition, many developers have mentioned communication as the most important one. And it’s no wonder, as game dev collaboration is an essential factor that can make or break the success of the project. So, let’s review some tips and practices that might make collaborative game development for remote teams easier. In the last seven years, I’ve interviewed more than 400 developers and industry folks. I’ve spoken to people like Fred Ford, Paul Richie, Edmund McMillen, Zach Barth, and other developers who “made it” in the game industry. Conversely, I’ve also interviewed many developers who spent years building games only to have them crash and burn commercially; many of these were incredible, innovative games that most gamers have never heard of (and certainly never played). I never cease to feel great sadness at these “failures”, especially after talking to their creators.
This open nature empowers developers with the freedom to customize the engine to suit their specific needs, whether it’s for hobbyist projects, indie game development, or even commercial ventures. Open-source game engines often include a suite of tools, libraries, and resources that streamline game development, covering aspects like graphics rendering, physics simulations, audio handling, and more. First released in 2005, Unity has become an old reliable of the indie game scene. With constant updates and yearly additions of major features like Unity Reflect, the support is just insane. It’s not just a decent fit for both 2D and 3D games of all stripes, but it’s also the go-to for VR and AR game creation, thanks to the horde of developers and companies producing SDKs for the engine. It’s also great for no-code mobile game development.
